San Francisco 2007 Journal and Photos

This trip was a present from Grandma Evy so we could come out and visit after Christmas.

December 26
We left at 7:10 p.m. Our original flight was scheduled for that morning at 8:00 but we were bumped!  We were very disappointed because not only did we lose our direct flight,  we also lost a whole day in California.  We flew into LA and then San Francisco.  The flight from LA to SF had a lot of turbulence due to the weather.  We finally arrived at our hotel in Vallejo around 3:30 a.m.

We slept in late and then met up with Grandma Evy and Bill for lunch.  We spent the day visiting with them and watching them ooh and ahh over their new digital picture frame we got for them. We had loaded it up with our wedding pictures before we wrapped it so it would be ready to go.  Grandma Evy decided she was going to show it off to all of her friends and tell them "I've gone high-tech."  We spent the entire day visiting and had dinner out that night.  My ML was able to catch up with her childhood friend and she was able to join us.

Grandma Evy and Bill told us to have one full day in San Francisco even though they weren't up for all the walking.  We took the ferry across the bay, wandered around Fisherman's Wharf, climbed Lombard street (ouch!) and ate lunch in a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown.  Our favorite part of the day was visiting Ghirardelli's.  Our first date was at  Ghirardelli's at Disney's Westside so we decided to enjoy a sundae at the original Ghirardelli's while we were in San Francisco.  Besides that, after all the walking on the steep streets, we felt that we deserved the treat!

You can't go to San Francisco without taking a trolley ride!

Grandma Evy went with us to check out the Jelly Belly Factory.  Since it was a Saturday the production lines weren't running (Ken was rather disappointed) but the tour was still very informative. Of course the best part was all the FREE sampling!  After eating our weight in jelly beans, we went to Muir Woods to see the Redwoods.  It rained so we were a muddy mess after our hike.  We picked up Bill and went out to my ML's favorite Chinese restaurant in Vallejo.  It was delicious and much, much better than the restaurant in Chinatown. We went back to Grandma Evy's and had coffee and more conversation before saying our goodbyes.

These pictures were taken at Muir Woods National Park.  The redwoods were amazing!
I had never seen trees that tall nor that huge before.
December 30
We spent the entire day traveling since our flight home was at 1 p.m.  Thankfully we had a direct flight this time and landed around 9:00 p.m. We are looking forward to planning our next trip to see more of beautiful California
